In the conversation Franta said”

Sonny (his nickname for me) I have raced many great bikes including the Gilera Four in Monza, The Vellocette KTT which I rode to a new lap record in Switzerland and rode in the Isle of Man TT.

I had a DKW 240 Speedway bike and a 1000cc Covenry Eagle and raced Jawa in the Six Days Trial.

I have ridden JawaVincentGileraMoto Guzzi and MV Agusta but my favorite was the Jawa 350 Speedway Bike.”

Franta was a big imposing gentleman and his eyes got a far away look when he hung his arm over my shoulder and talked of these bikes.

Franta’s brother, was the famous Porsche racer Jaroslav Juhanthe man that took Porsche to the Carrera. In his book “Live Without Brakes he dedicated a section to his older brother. The following is my interpretation of that section. The book was in Czech and I used Google translate to read it. Frankie Juhan, Jaroslav’s nephew let me use his hard copy of the book when I was creating this.

I did had a copy in digital format Jaroslav had sent me from Geneva before he passed away and the book went to print.

Nice évocation..The pic from Volker Rauch ,French GP Charade 250cc is 1967,not 1966…Mike was leading by one minute when gearbox problem stop him to a pit stop. He finished 3rd after restart this day….

    1. Dear Richie. Thank you very much for you comment. The 1966 was referring to the 250cc championship and that picture has always been my favorite 250 six photo. I will correct my archives. My blog http://www.winding-roads.ca gives me some leeway to correct these unintended oversites that a utube posting does not.
